The Student’s Space Association released a new update on their follow up mission to the first Polish satellite.
The Student’s Space Association (SKA) is based at the Warsaw University of Technology. Their greatest achievement is PW-Sat, created with the support of the Space Research Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences. PW-Sat, a 1U standard CubSsat (10x10x11,3 cm) was launched on the maiden flight of the Vega rocket. The students are now aiming to build a more ambitious second satellite equipped with a solar-sail.
The PW-Sat 2 follow on project will be a 2U (two units) cubesat. The launch is planned for ;ate 2015. The main aim of the PW-Sat 2 project is educational. Students working on the satellite will gain experience while working on a real space project.
PW-Sat 2 probably will be equipped in two cameras, a sun sensor, an orientation system, deployable solar panels and a 2×2 meter solar sail for deorbitation purposes. The addition of these items suggests that PW-Sat 2 will be installed with more sophisticated on-board instruments, which will allow for more precise orientation of the satellite.
The students also released several graphical renderings presenting the project. These renderings are presented in the gallery of this article.
