Galileo Masters’ subscription phase is now over. Polish edition became the most popular one in the whole world!
The first stage of Galileo Masters ended on 6 July 2015 at midday. Each year, the competition rewards the best solutions that use satellite technologies. 64 applications came from Poland and this number made our edition the most popular one.European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC), second name Galileo Masters, is said to be the most prominent competition for those interested in satellite technologies who dream of a career in the space sector, launching their own startup or diversification of the previous activities. Ideas of applications, devices or satellite navigation technologies are those that could be submitted for Galileo Masters.
In 2014, Polish edition gathered 22 applications, which was the 4th result among all international editions. Great Britain was then the acknowledged leader with 69 applications. At that time, British edition was believed to represent level incapable of jumping through. The great result of 2015 Polish edition changed this status quo.
The final result of 515 applications is the best in the history of Galileo Masters. It probably couldn’t be possible without the extension of subscription time. 64 applications were sent from Poland, which is a great success and an evidence of potential in using satnav residing within Polish students, scientific workers and entrepreneurs.
According to Polish edition’s organizers from the Blue Dot Solutions (2012 and 2013 Galileo Master’s participant), the previous low activity resulted from the lack of appropriate access to idea evaluation mechanisms as well as the knowledge of technical, organizational and financial possibilities. This year, the situation has fortunately changed.
Project POSITION is an example of a crucial initiative supporting Polish entrepreneurs in the development of their own solutions in the area of satellite navigation technology. The project is funded from Horizon 2020 programme and led by Black Pearls VC. POSITION’s beneficiaries, who are being selected, will get the advanced support in obtaining the funding and in solving technical and organizational problems.
Winners of Galileo Masters will be announced during the Final Gala of the Polish edition in November. Polish experts will familiarize with applications and choose the finalists of the national edition beforehand. The success of the Polish edition of Galileo Masters was possible thanks to the contribution of our patrons – Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Administration and Digitization, Polish Space Industry Association and several media patrons.
A large amount of applications is the effect of a promotional campaign consisting of more than 30 informational meetings in all voivodeships, 3 webinars and numerous Internet articles. Those actions would not bring such spectacular results without the support of the competition’s partners.
