Polish president signs the final Poland – ESA documents

On Monday, 12th of November 2012, the Polish president Bronisław Komorowski signed the final ratification documents between the Republic of Poland and the European Space Agency.

 

Recently, one could watch in Poland speeded up activities related to becoming a new member state of ESA. Polish negotiations with ESA finished in spring 2012. Later, a few stalled months followed due to the unwillingness of the country’s Ministry of Finance to accept the membership fees. Finally, after a supporting action the Polish government agreed on June 12th to proceed with the terms of ESA membership. The accession documents were signed by the ESA Director General Jean-Jacques Dordain and Polish Minister of Economy Waldemar Pawlak on September 13th. The agreement was later unanimously accepted by the Polish Parliament on the 24th of October and confirmed by the Senate on the 9th of November.

On Monday, 12th of November, the Polish president Bronisław Komorowski signed the final ratification documents between Poland and ESA. The president’s signature was the last step before the documents could be send to ESA Headquarters in Paris. With this step behind, Poland can actively participate in the ESA Ministerial Council in Naples, which will happen between on 20th and 21st of November. This event will be crucial for the future of ESA, as a lot of important decisions on the European Space program will be chosen.

Poland’s contribution to ESA is 28,7 million Euro. Additionally an 11,1 million entry fee will be paid in four instalments.
