Galileo Masters ends by the end of June. Its main aim is to find the best ideas connected with satellite navigation. It is still time to take part in this exceptional European competition and, judging by the main prize – 20 000 Euro, it is definitely worth trying.

Apart from money, there are a number of other prizes within your reach: internships in space sector companies, virtual offices, co-working spaces and mentoring necessary for getting funds. Moreover, all finalists will have the opportunity to present their ideas to investors and receive an objective judgement of the commercialization potential.

European Space Navigation Competition (ESNC) is the major competition aimed at people fond of satellite technology who have always been dreaming of launching their space startup. If you have an idea of applications, devices or technologies connected with satnav, ESNC may become your chance of a lifetime.

According to Chris Kanawka from Blue Dot Solutions, GM’s organizer, the competition has recently been one of the most accessible mechanisms of judging the marketing potential of ideas based on satellite navigation. “We are surrounded by multiple amount of processes (e.g. in transportation) whose functioning can be improved thanks to apps using satellite navigation” said Mr Kanawka.

2014 laureates:

  • The last year’s edition was won by the team responsible for the HYENT app. The idea behind it is to reward participants for the way they live and to encourage them to take up new challenges.
  • In 2014, the team from the Navigation Department at Maritime University of Szczecin won the II prize in an European category University Challenge. Their system NAVDEC supports making decisions during dangerous situations (e.g. collisions) at sea. Right now, it is installed in 12 ships. While applying for Galileo Masters, NAVDEC was not a commercial product. “The prize opened a lot of doors and enabled us to promote our idea. In the meantime, our company obtained  the SME Instrument (phase 1) grant and received several other recognitions” – says Piotr Wołejsza from Sup4Nav, the company responsible for NAVDEC.
  • The third place was occupied by Fields Of War entertainment application made by ScalaC. Based on satellite navigation, this city game uses the newest technologies like iBeacons and wearables to broaden interaction with the player.

The Polish edition is organized by Blue Dot Solutions and co-organized by Black Pearls VC.
